Enjoy wine tasting at home

Do you miss visiting your local wineries? You can now enjoy a wine tasting experience at home, courtesy of Ironcutter Wine. Order a wine tasting pack, organise a Zoom meeting with your friends and family, create an amazing cheese platter (or order one from a local business) and settle in for an evening, or afternoon, of wine tasting at home.

The tasting pack from Canberra district, Ironcutter Wine, includes 6 bottles of 100ml (approximately one standard glass per bottle) of award-winning wine and a Zoom meeting with the winemaker, who will take you through a tasting of each wine. The packs can easily be shared between two people and they’re only $35 each with free shipping to anywhere in Australia.

Australian wineries have faced one hit after another in the past 6 months, but us Aussies are a resilient bunch. These trying times have forced businesses to change the way they operate, making room for new ways to connect with customers.

Local winemaker, Brian Sinclair, spent 19 years making wine at Brindabella Hills Winery before establishing his boutique wine label, Ironcutter Wine.

Brian’s family migrated to Australia from Germany in 1854 on a voyage that included other well known Australian winemaker’s families, including the family of Ken Helm of Helm Wines, one of Canberra’s leading wineries.

Brian’s family established a vineyard and continued their occupation of wine grape growing and wine making, after acquiring a 26-acre block near Albury, NSW.

Brian says the wine tasting pack came to life after wanting to find a way for people to stay connected during a time when we’ve been forced to isolate.

“I developed the idea over about a week when everyone was talking about social distancing. But it’s physical distancing we’ve had to practise, while finding ways to stay socially connected.

“I want to give people a unique way to socially connect with their family and friends, no matter where they live in Australia,” he said.

His most popular wines are his Riesling, Rosé and Shiraz and he says the seasons are some of the many things he likes about the Canberra Wine District.

“It’s a beautiful place to grow fruit because of the seasons and beautiful climate. The days are warm days and the cold nights slow down the ripening of the fruit, allowing it to develop more flavour.”

We love the size of the small bottles included in Brian’s wine tasting packs.  The size allows you to enjoy a wine tasting at home without being left with lots of open bottles of wine.

Brian’s wine tasting experience could be the perfect online activity with friends and family for a birthday celebration, or even Mother’s Day. Or if you’re like us, it’s just a good excuse to catch up with your wine-loving loved ones online, eat cheese and drink wine while supporting a small business and having a good time.
