Local Press Cafe is one of my favourite cafes in Canberra. They serve healthy, fresh and flavoursome whole foods and that’s our kind of food. They’re also located at the beautiful Kingston Foreshore so you can enjoy a delicious lunch or breakfast, soak up the surroundings and go for a walk around Lake Burley Griffin before or after you have a bite to eat or something to drink. MasterChef Australia contestant, Trent Harvey, also worked at Local Press Cafe when he finished filming the show and is still involved with the Local Press Cafe team. If you haven’t heard, Eat Canberra is hosting our very first event at The Truffle Farm where guests will be treated to a two-course lunch cooked by Trent, desserts by Naked Foods Braddon and lots more. Caramelised beetroot and goats cheese tarts
Last week I went on a special tour of the Southside Farmers Market in celebration of their 10th birthday that was celebrated today. I met some of the stallholders, sampled some of the local produce and took home some fresh ingredients to whip up a delicious recipe to share with you.
Beetroot and goats cheese work perfectly together especially when it’s served on a crunchy, buttery piece of pastry. Continue reading Caramelised beetroot and goats cheese tarts
Baked Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake
I’ve been so busy lately and I haven’t been in the kitchen much. In celebration of the long weekend I decided to make Mr Eat Canberra a special dinner of Oysters Kilpatrick and Mussels in tomato and chilli broth with crusty bread. Of course no meal is complete without dessert so I whipped up a baked strawberry swirl cheesecake. It’s an easy and delicious dessert that’s best made the day before and can be eaten for several days after you’ve baked it. It looks pretty and it’s not too sweet. It will put a smile on everyone’s face and Mr Eat Canberra scored it a 10/10! Continue reading Baked Strawberry Swirl Cheesecake
Soup of the week: Quick and Easy Laksa
I love a big bowl of spicy laksa any time of the year but it’s always better during winter because it warms you up when you need it the most! Laksa is one of my favourite Asian soups although it’s a tough competition between the creamy, flavoursome laksa and an aromatic bowl of Vietnamese pho. I love going out for laksa with friends or for a cheap date night but it’s also really easy to make at home. You can whip up this cheat’s version of Laksa pretty quickly and you could even have some leftovers to take for lunch the next day. Continue reading Soup of the week: Quick and Easy Laksa
