The Cupping Room: New look and menu for one of Canberra’s favourite cafes

Avo toast and other dishes at The Cupping Room.

The Cupping Room is one of Canberra’s original cafes that played a pivotal role transforming the breakfast and brunch scene in the nation’s capital.

After 11 years, their tasty and unique all-day dining dishes, great coffee and central location are some of the many things that still make The Cupping Room stand out, and why it remains a favourite brekky, brunch or lunch stop for many Canberrans.

The Cupping Room recently launched a fresh new menu and look to their interior. So if you’re looking for an excuse to visit, this is it.

We recommend starting with the mushroom or avo toast, and ordering the French toast as table cakes to share (awwww!) with your fellow foodies. “What’s table cakes?” We hear you ask. Well, it’s when someone orders something sweet to be shared and consumed by the entire table – go on, be that person. Table cakes give you the best of both worlds and its a great way to try a variety of dishes and save a few calories so you can enjoy something sweet without eating the whole dish to yourself!

The mushroom toast is a ‘must try’ with a delicious combination of crispy enoki, salsa verde and mushroom foam radiating a scent of truffle that will waft up your nose as soon as the dish hits the table.

Their avocado toast is definitely not your standard avo on toast. It’s packed with flavour, freshness, it’s a little fancy and it’s an avo on toast that’s worth the money. For $23 you’ll get a half avo, whipped goats cheese, mixed sala, pomegranate vinaigrette, salsa verde, pickled beetroot, hazelnut dukkah and poached egg on a thick slice of sourdough.

Plates of food sit on a cafe table outside.

Their current French toast offering is cinnamon-soaked brioche with fresh strawberries, almonds, butter crumble, citrus meringue, matcha white chocolate ganache, raspberry caramel and matcha dust.

If you’re in the area often, the prosciutto straccliatella should make it on your weekly lunch run rotation – the pistachio praline gives this tasty ciabatta roll a little sweetness to balance out the saltiness from the prosciutto – it’s delish!

You’ll also find familiar favourites with a little twist like the bacon benedict with caramelised hollandaise on focaccia.

The crumbed halloumi was hard to resist but we’ll be back for more goodness from The Cupping Room very soon.

The drinks menu is extensive and they’re pouring the ever-popular ONA coffee so you know your coffee is going to be good. You can choose your caffeine hit from the dedicated coffee menu. Don’t be afraid to ask their incredible baristas if you want a recommendation – the raspberry candy is unique and always hits the spot.

Select a juice if you want something refreshing or a milkshake if you want to treat yourself. Love Biscoff? Try the Biscoff latte. It’s a warm, buttery, caramelly cup of deliciousness topped with Biscoff crumbs.

You can grab a seat outside if you have a fur baby and treat them to a pupperchino. Ask one of the friendly team for a pup treat.

A special drinks and food menu is also available for the human kids so you can save a little money and order a dish that’s more suitable for the little ones – love that!

You’ll find a selection of vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options on their menu to keep everyone happy, and keep your eye out for their weekly specials that regularly rotate.
