Where to find the best pancakes in Canberra

Pancakes or hotcakes? We don’t care what you call them, we just love a good stack of them and we know we’re not the only ones. We’d eat them for breakfast, brunch, lunch, brinner and dinner if we could. So we’ve rounded up some of our favourite places to indulge in a plate of these delicious sweet treats in Canberra.

Arc Place

Get ready to treat yourself. Arc Place has a deeeelish hotcake dish on their menu, and it’s a doozy. Two fluffy vanilla hotcakes, stacked neatly on top of each other, hugging a pile of spiced apple, finished with salted dulce de leche, peanut brittle and double cream. It’s the perfect serving size and the consistency of the hotcake is the ultimate combination of fluffy, light and a little spongey.

Open weekdays 7am – 3pm, and 8am – 2pm weekends. Find them at shop 1/1 Constitution Avenue, Canberra City.

Walter Cafe

The new kid on the block, Walter Cafe is a welcomed addition to the Canberra dining scene. It’s nestled on the edge of the newly renovated Pavillion, boasting amazing views across Lake Burley Griffin. With seating outdoors on the deck, or inside amongst the contemporary fit out, you can enjoy their popular buttermilk pancakes with caramelised banana and nutella mascarpone.

Open every day 7am – 4pm. Find them at The Pavillion, Barrine Drive, Parkes.

Teddy Pickers

Weekend specials are a treat at Teddy Pickers in Campbell, with new creations each week. Past specials have included mandarin syrup, caramelised white chocolate mousse, blackberries, and sesame snaps. Or my personal favourite, featuring Messina hokey pokey gelato, banana, salted caramel and peanut crunch. And even though they may sound super sweet, they master the perfect balance of flavours and textures.

They do a fantastic gluten free version, and always try to feature local ingredients where they can in their dishes. It’s a must visit for weekend brunch.

Open 6:30am until 2pm Mon-Fri and 8am until 1pm on weekends. Find them at 53/65 Constitution Ave, Campbell.

Wildflour Fyshwick

Head to Wildflour Fyshwick if you want some Insta-worthy hotcakes topped with sweat treats. Past options have included butterscotch hotcakes with Belgian chocolate ganache, pistachio and dried berry crumb topped with butterscotch sauce. There was ‘Death by Chocolate’ with Belgian chocolate ganache, chocolate ice cream, passionfruit, dark chocolate sauce, chocolate sprinkles and blueberries. They’ve also featured ‘Blue Hotcakes’ with caramelised banana, vanilla frozen custard, chocolate ganache, fruit sprinkles and blueberry sauce.

If you visit when this article is published you can choose from their ‘Knafeh Pancakes’ with Yerevan ricotta, walnuts, pistachio dust, fig and mascarpone gelato, blood orange slice, strawberries and orange blossom sugar syrup.

Not feeling Knafeh vibes? You might want to try their ‘Butterscotch Caramel Pancakes’ with caramel chunks, chocolate crumb, Mayotte vanilla frozen custard, fresh strawberries and banana topped with caramel butterscotch sauce.

Grab some of their pastries, bread and pies while you’re there. We love Wildflour and you can also find their baked goods in their Kingston and Weston locations.

Open weekdays 7.30am – 2pm, Saturdays 8am – 2.30pm and Sundays 8am – 2pm. Find them at 8 Townsville Street, Fyshwick.
