Robatayaki at Mu: The 13-course Japanese dining experience you need to try

The popular omakase experience at Mu has been transformed into a 13-course robatayaki experience. Located at Constitution Place, Mu adjoins Cicada Bar and sits under the highly regarded Chairman Group of restaurants. There are only 10 seats available in the small dining room however they can cater for up to 16 diners for each sitting, using the private tables at Cicada Bar.

The Binchotan charcoal grill is taking centre stage for winter with smoke and flames enhancing the quality ingredients, marrying with the flavours to create a feast for the senses.

Every course was a delight to eat but some of the highlights were the Hokkaido scallop with XO sauce and salmon roe, the MBS 8+ wagyu flank steak with wasabi salsa, the rich and creamy Patagonian toothfish with Davidson Plum and the chargrilled unagi with flavoursome shiitake and scallion rice.

Our other favourite dish was the chawanmushi with porcini reduction, scampi and persimmon – a delicate, light yet flavourful dish that’s perfectly balanced and beautifully highlights the technique and quality of Japanese cuisine.

Eat Canberra

Make sure you give yourself some time to have a drink at the moody and stylish Cicada Bar before your dining experience. You can choose from a range of sake, Japanese wines, Japanese-inspired cocktails and mocktails, and Japanese beer. We recommend the Golden Hour cocktail to start, and finish your meal with the peach sake or 10YO Umeshi.

The team at Cicada Bar have developed some winter cocktails to keep you warm like the Tamago Hot Spring – eggnog with a Japanese twist.

If you want an intimate dining experience and you have an appreciation for Japanese food, this is the dining experience for you.
