The Forage: Canberra’s amazing food and beverage festival

The Forage is back from 2-7pm this Saturday 6th April at their new location, Dairy Road in Fyshwick. This incredible event was established in April 2014 and it has continued to get bigger and better since then.

The Forage will make its debut in its new home at Dairy Road this Saturday. Dairy Road is quickly becoming a popular destination for food and beverage makers. It’s home to some incredible food and beverage businesses including Capital Brewing Co., Jasper and Myrtle (who have recently moved in and have opened Canberra’s first chocolate factory) and Big River Distilling who create artisan spirits. I can confirm their gin is really good, especially their Cinn Gin, an apple and cinnamon flavoured gin that went perfectly with some ginger ale.

Last night we were taken on a special ‘behind the scenes tour’ to learn more about each of these businesses.

Make sure you stop in and speak to the makers at Dairy Road to learn more about how their products are made. I’m sure they’ll even let you have sample some of their goods.

But it’s not all about food and beverages at Dairy Road. You’ll also find Blochaus Bouldering, Kidzplore indoor play centre, Vertikal Snow Sports (an indoors snow sports centre) and heaps more.

We finished our tour at Vertikal with a preview of some of the many amazing food and beverages that will be available at the Forage this weekend.

Keep reading to find out about some of the things we tried and some of things things you can try if you head to The Forage.

Fricken Chicken has been on my ‘to eat’ list for a while now and I finally got to try it. It’s fricken tasty and it exceeded my expectations! They have chicken burgers, fried chicken, fries and vegan fried cauliflower. I bit into the vegan cauliflower thinking it was fried chicken. I was shocked to find that it wasn’t but it was so tasty and I ate some friend chicken too so it was the best of both worlds.

Three Mills Bakery had a spread of their baked goods including donuts, hot cross buns, a salt and pepper baguette and a Mt Majura Shiraz and fig sourdough. Everything was amazing!

Have you heard of Sabi Beverages? I’ve posted a few photos about them on social media. They’ve created cocktail bubbles – amazing, right? They will be serving up their special vodka Creme Egg Sabi Bubble (that’s them in the background) this weekend with a few other creations.

Zaab is a great Thai/Laos restaurant in Braddon and they now have a little pop up called Zaab Station. Their beef jerky is divine and they also have bags of pork crackling. One of my many weaknesses!

We’re so lucky to have so many incredible Canberra region wines within our reach. We tasted some of Quarry Hill wines and I loved their Tempranillo so much that I went out and purchased 6 bottles today. Make sure you have a taste and get a bottle (or 6 like me) if you see them at The Forage.

Cannoli Brothers have created a cannoli that’s filled with Pialligo bacon, sugar plums and mascarpone. They also have a gluten free option and many other unique and delicious flavours.

The Canberra Distillery has a sparkly Musk Vodka! It actually has glitter in it that shimmers when it’s swirled around. How pretty is it?!

The Sicilian Biscuit Company specialise in Sicilian treats and they had a range of their pasticcini for us to try. They were really good and they’ve just announced that they will also be serving up arancini at The Forage.

Want to enjoy a craft cocktail without the hangover? Altina Drinks have created gorgeous non-alcoholic cocktails.

Get Crackin’ Crème Brûlée will be dishing up their crème brûlée!

La Empanada, Tikka Stand, Under Ground Spirits, Hungry Brown Cow and Tea Garden Co were some of the other businesses that were at the preview event. They’ll also be at The Forage!
