Shuck yeah: Narooma Oyster Festival is back in 2021

The luxurious molluscs known as oysters are a polarizing delicacy and people either love them or hate them. If you’re one of the former, you’re in for a treat because the award-winning Narooma Oyster Festival is back on Friday 30th April and Saturday 1st May. The festival celebrates South Coast produce including abalone, sea urchins and of course, oysters.

The 2021 Covid-safe program will deliver a range of food experiences with oyster tastings, oyster masterclasses, cooking demonstrations, food and wine market stalls and the popular bush tucker cook-up.

Local art and culture will also be celebrated with the addition of the River of Art Alley, live music, family entertainment and the popular oyster shucking competition – a coveted title amongst South Coast oyster farmers.

Paul West (chef, author, TV presenter and oyster farmer) is the 2021 Narooma Oyster Festival ambassador and Kelly Eastwood (Eastwoods Deli and Cooking School) returns to host the cooking program.

Some of the events have already sold out but general admission tickets are available on the Friday night and Saturday. Due to Covid-19 requirements, tickets must be pre-purchased so visit the website to find out more and purchase your tickets.

This is your chance to sample fresh oysters from at least six local estuaries, taste regional wines, craft beer and ciders, and indulge in fine local produce from a huge variety of food stalls, all while supporting small businesses.

Narooma and the surrounding region is a beautiful part of the world so make the most of it and spend the weekend exploring the area. I’ve been diving with seals at Montague Island, eaten oysters at Bermagui and recently spent a weekend camping at Mystery Bay.
