Gather your friends and head to this cafe for breakfast or lunch

Love a cafe that caters for dietary requirements, serves up delicious fare, and is extremely pretty to boot?

Veer off the busy Lonsdale Street strip in Braddon to Mort Street and head straight to Gather,  tucked in next to The Cruelty Free Shop Canberra.

“Think of it as a healthier approach to cafe dining. We have a sustainable, local approach, using non-refined sugars and healthier ingredients,” says head chef Matt Barton.

“We tried to design a menu that’s playful, colourful, not too unhealthy, but dishes are still substantial.”

The menu features both breakfast and lunch options, although they’re all available all day, so feel free to indulge in breakfast for lunch, or lunch for breakfast.

Dig into the very popular blue swimmer crab omelette, and it’s easy to be convinced that healthy can be delicious (and look damn good for Instagram).

Otherwise you can chow down on ricotta hot cakes, the spring bowl, or the almost-to-pretty-to-eat sago and mango pudding which hits the trifecta as vegan, gluten free and dairy free.

Lunch includes yakitori salad, beef and sweet potato croquettes or the veggie quesadilla stack. And everything’s made in house – from the meals to plenty of grab and go options and sweet treats made with unrefined sugars.

Thirsty? You’ll find a range of freshly squeezed juices, keffirs and kombucha (kombucha lovers should flock straight to their kegerator with kombuchas available on tap). They also make a particularly good coffee from their own special blend by Lonsdale Street Roasters. Oh and they have their own nitro infused cold brew coffee on tap.

They keep the sustainable approach going off the plate too, by using no plastic plus they’ve introduced a reusable coffee cup scheme and you get a refund if you return glass bottles.

Gather have certainly made their mark quickly – the venue recently picked up both the ACT Café of the Year Award and ACT Café Dining Award at the Restaurant & Catering Awards of Excellence.

And now there’s even more Gather to love – they’ve just recently opened a second venue. The more spacious Gather Park sits underneath the Manhattan building in the city, with leafy views out to Glebe Park across the road. You can expect much more of the same, with some heartier additions to the menu.
