Canberra truffle events in 2018

Truffle season is one of my favourite times of year in Canberra! This strangely delicious, indulgent and very expensive black gold will be celebrated around Canberra and surrounding regions over the next few months.

We were recently invited to the launch of the 2018 Truffle Festival. The Truffle Festival also celebrated its 10 year anniversary at this event! From June until August, you will be able to indulge in a selection of special truffle dishes, take part in truffle cooking classes, go on truffle hunts and attend some incredible events in Canberra. You can check out the Truffle Festival website for lots of information about truffles and some special truffle events they have listed.

You might also want to check out the following events. If you have tried truffles then now is the time and you won’t get them any fresher than the ones on offer in Canberra over the coming months!

The Veuve Clicquot Truffle Dinner at Hyatt Hotel Canberra is back. Indulge in a six-course pairing menu designed by the hotel’s Executive Chef, Nitin Kumar and a champagne ambassador from Veuve Clicquot. I went to this luxurious event a few years ago and it was amazing. You can read more about my experience here and visit their website to find out more about this year’s event.

Westfield Woden is hosting a Truffle Festival Market Day on Saturday 30th June and Paul West from River Cottage will be there to celebrate. Westfield Belconnen will host their Truffle Festival Market Day on Saturday 28th July. Elena Duggan, winner of MasterChef 2016, will run cooking demonstrations during the day and there will be lots of other truffle events happening.

The Duxton will host their Truffle Dinner on Thursday 26th July, upstairs in The Loft. Tickets are only $89 and include a four-course truffle dinner with matching wine. Tickets and more information can be found on Eventbrite or the Facebook event page.

The Courtyard Restaurant and Olims at Mercure Canberra also have a range of truffle dishes available during truffle season. The truffle and blue cheese arancini topped with truffle aioli at Olims sound amazing and they’re only $15 for 5. Mercure Canberra will also be hosting the Truffles, Wine and Jazz event on 14th July. The event is free to attend and doors will open at 5pm. Macenmist Truffles and wine will be on hand along with complimentary wine tastings from Mount Majura Vineyards, Lerida Estate and Long Rail Gully Wines.

If you’re lucky enough to score tickets (they sell out fast) to a truffle hunt and brunch or lunch at The Truffle Farm, then I highly recommend this. Mr Eat Canberra and I treated my mum to a truffle hunt and brunch last year when she visited. It was amazing! She owns a cafe in QLD and had never tried truffles. She loved them so much that she purchased a truffle, took it home with her and added truffle items on her menu! Her customers loved them. We also purchased some truffle butter and made a delicious truffle and mushroom fettuccine and added truffle butter to our steak – delicious! Visit their website to get tickets but hurry because they’re already selling out.

Eat Canberra was also invited to the 2018 Truffle Dinner by Ginger Catering at the National Arboretum last week and it was incredible. The events featured some of Canberra’s amazing chefs who each created an amazing truffle dish. We always love attending events by Ginger Catering, the gorgeous venue at the National Arboretum also helps.
