Christmas treats at Canberra markets

One of the best ways to find local food, treats and gifts to make your Christmas extra special is to visit some of the many Canberra markets.  Most of the markets run all year but you can get some extra special Christmas products in December. A visit to the markets to pick up some edible treats, gifts and decorations is sure to make your Christmas even better this year. 

HANDMADE MARKETS

WHEN: This quarterly market attracts tens of thousands of people. The next one is happening THIS WEEKEND from 10am-4pm on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th December. They’re also running a special Twilight Market from 5-9pm on TONIGHT Friday 8th December.

WHERE: EPIC, Exhibition Park

When visiting the wonderful and popular Handmade Market, the gourmet food hall is a must for foodies this Christmas. This year you can grab hams from Canberra favourites including Pialligo Estate, and homemade gingerbread houses from Homemade Sweet Delights. There are also endless amounts of Christmas puddings and lots of other Christmas goodies, including the Christmas caramel apples by Caramel Cave that are in the featured photo. Not only can you buy amazing food to eat at home but you can also grab a bite to eat at some of the yummy food vans and have a drink in the festive bar area.

OLD BUS DEPOT MARKETS

Where: 21 Wentworth Ave Kingston, ACT 2604 Australia

When: 10am-4pm every Saturday and Sunday in December

These markets have been running since 1992 and they’re a Canberra favourite! Popular for their famous treats, this Christmas you can find Christmas favourites including amazing gingerbread houses, yummy puddings and beautiful Christmas themed cupcakes. You can also find plenty of nibbles to put on your table for your guests to enjoy while Christmas lunch is still cooking. Think delicious dips, cheese and olives.

Every Sunday the markets have a theme and throughout the month of December it’s all about Christmas! They’re also opened EVERY Saturday AND Sunday in December.

CAPITAL REGION FARMERS MARKET

Where: Exhibition Park in Canberra, Flemington Rd, Mitchell ACT 2911

When: Every Saturday 7:30-11:30am

The Capital Region Farmers Market has a huge focus on fresh food. When you walk around the market you can find an endless supply of some of your favourite seasonal produce including cherries and fresh seafood. You can also pick up a fresh and juicy ham for Christmas day and lots of condiments to go with it. If you have a sweet tooth there are also Christmas puddings, cookies and tarts. 

These markets are open until the 23rd of December so you can get your last fresh food market haul just before Christmas.

OTHER NOTABLE MARKETS

You might also want to check out the Southside Farmers Market. It’s open from 8-11:30am every Sunday at Canberra College. These markets are popular at Christmas time and the last market of the year is on Christmas Eve. So everything will be nice and fresh for your Christmas feast! Similiar to the Capital Region Farmers Market, you can buy lots of fresh produce.
