Seven dishes on our ‘to eat’ list at the 2022 Canberra Night Noodle Markets

The Night Noodle Markets are returning to Canberra for ten nights from Friday 25 February. With a line up of delicious vendors, a new location at Parkes Place West Lawns, and an easier way to order through the Mr Yum app. So you now have the choice to skip the lines and scan a QR code to view, order and pay for items on your phone. You’ll receive an SMS when your order is ready for pick up so you can enjoy your feast easier than ever.

We don’t know about you but the Night Noodle Markets are one of our favourite events on the Canberra foodie calendar and we’re pretty excited to see them return after a turbulent few years.

So we’ve done a little research to give you some more information about what food to expect and we’ve narrowed down our ‘to eat’ list to share with you. Happy feasting!

Mr Miyagi – EVERYTHING ON OFFER

Mr Miyagi is coming to Canberra! This popular restaurant has been on our ‘to eat’ list for years but every time we visit Melbourne, our list is too long and we haven’t made it to the restaurant yet. So luckily for us, Mr Miyagi will be treating Canberrans to a little taste of their delicious creations. Their selection of M’s Mighty Pucks include hoisin duck, satay wagyu beef and miso eggplant. All served in a bun and topped with saucy deliciousness. Their famous Miyagi Gravy Fries drizzled with rich Japanese gravy, shaved spring onion and toasted sesame seeds will also be on offer. The fries are also vegan! We know there’s more than one dish mentioned here but we want to try one of everything so we’re counting Mr Miyagi as one.

Gelato Messina – HK French Toast

Gelato Messina always deliver unique and tasty desserts with three options available this year. You’ll have the choice of mango pancakes (mango sorbet and vanilla chantilly wrapped in a mango crepe), milo fly club (deep-fried milo gelato, messinatella pudding and oreo crumble topped with warm messinatella) and the HK French Toast. We’re tempted to try one of each but the HK French Toast is number one on our list – dulce de leche and peanut butter French toast with maple syrup gelato and condensed milk. We’re sold!

Demochi Donuts – Cinnamon mochi donut with butterscotch dip

A mochi and a donut had a baby and the result was Demochi Donuts! They’ve taken traditional glutinous rice flour and transformed it to make a donut. They’re light and crispy on the outside with a pillow chew on the inside. You can choose from cinnamon or honey glazed with or without a butterscotch dip.

Wonderbao – Okonomiyaki Tofu Bao

Okonomiyaki are one of our many favourite Japanese foods to eat AND cook at home. So we’re intrigued to try the okokomiyaki tofu bao from Wonderbao. The fluffy bao is filled with crispy tofu with red pickles, okonomiyaki sauce garnished with nori and shichimi. It’s also suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

Hoi Pinoy – BBQ Skewers

The skewers are a must when visiting the Night Noodle Markets. You can smell that BBQ goodness as soon as you’re close enough and they’re always as good as they smell. The sweet, sticky sauce compliments the barbecued meat. You can choose from chicken and pork but if you visit their main stall you’ll also have the option of a view sides and delicious lechon – boneless Hoy Pinoy style pork middle roasted over charcoal served on steamed rice and sawsawan (a special dipping sauce).

@Roll Up – Satay chicken roti wrap

Chicken satay and roti are two delicious foods on their own. Combine them and you have a double delicious creation! We’ve only eaten a few chicken satay roti wraps so we’re long overdue for another and we’re interested to see how @Roll Up dishes up their version.

The Sunday Baker – Better than sex brownie

Say what? Yep, if the name is anything to go by then this brownie better be pretty damn good. So what makes this indulgent treat so appealing….. A decadent combination of dark, milk, caramel and white chocolate all stuffed in a chocolatey brownie and served with your choice of mango pancake cream, yuzu cream or coconut lychee yoghurt. They claim it will “bring out the tiger in you”!

Visit the Night Noodle Market website for a full list of vendors and menu items available.

If you’re thirsty you might want to visit the Dan Murphy’s Zero% Bar or the Aperol Spritz Kombi Bar. There will also be live entertainment and there’s a pets-welcome policy so you can take your fur baby with you.
