It’s time to stop and smell (and drink) the rosé on Sunday 8th December with The Food and Wine Marshall at the aMBUSH Gallery in the Kambri Precinct at The Australian National University.
Spend four hours sampling unlimited rosé from 17 different Canberra region winemakers while admiring some psychedelic artwork by Reg Mombassa, best known for his stylised paintings and designs for the Australian surf wear company, Mambo Graphics.
You’ll also indulge in grazing tables loaded with cheese and charcuterie from Canberra’s own Bella’s Feast.
This event will give you the opportunity to meet 15 Canberra region winemakers as their pour their rosé while discussing all things that make this pink drink so very popular.
Some of my favourite Canberra region rosé’s are from Collector Wines, Lerida Estate and Lake George Winery but I haven’t tried them all so this will be the perfect opportunity to try more.
Event organiser, Fran Marshall (AKA The Food and Wine Marshall), will also be pouring rosé on behalf of the winemakers who are unable to attend.
So what makes rose such a popular drink? According to Fran, it’s the versatility of when it can be consumed and what it can be consumed with.
“Rosé has become so popular because when it’s well made it can offer the same amount of texture, character and aromatic fruit notes that a white or red wine does.
“It’s a perfect wine for all drinking occasions and it’s a fabulous food wine.”
She believes a good rosé is the result of a combination of factors.
“Good quality grapes, great winemaking skills and passion make a good rosé.
“Rosé isn’t just a wine made with whatever is “leftover” anymore, it’s a wine made in its own right, and can be exceptional when made well.
“Some winemakers are using rosé to showcase alternative grape varietals as well as unusual winemaking practices, and our diverse number of cool climate rosé’ shows just how different it can be in every bottle,” she said.
Worried about parking? Don’t be because there’s a car park under the aMBUSH Gallery that gives you 3 hours of free parking.
Rosé will also be available to purchase by the bottle (with some available by the glass) so it’s perfect timing to pick up some Christmas gifts or to treat yourself.
