Exclusive: Chinese New Year menus in Canberra

Chinese New Year (also known as Lunar New Year) is almost here. The Chinese festival celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar, highlighting traditions, cultural activities, drinks and of course, food. Many Asian restaurants release special menus for the celebration. This year is the Year of the Pig and festivities for 2019 will kick off from 5th February, Chinese New Year’s Day, and will run until 17th February. We’ve got the exclusive first look at the Chinese New Year menus from two of Canberra’s best Asian restaurants, Lanterne Rooms and Chairman & Yip.

You can enjoy the Chinese New Year banquet menu or tasting menu at Lanterne Rooms, in Campbell, from Tuesday 5th February until Saturday 16th February. The dishes are inspired by Malay and Nyonya New Year food traditions, with a Lanterne Room twist. View the menu.

The Chairman & Yip is an iconic Canberra institution that’s located in Barton. They’ve created a special banquet menu that’s available from Tuesday 5th February until Saturday 9th February. The dishes that feature on the menu are from the heart of Cantonese Chinese New Year traditions with a fresh, modern take.

The banquet menu at Chairman & Yip is designed for groups of 6, but their friendly staff can customise a new year menu for smaller tables with some of the Chinese new year dishes.
