I was recently invited to dine at a restaurant courtesy of First Table, a new
platform that has recently launched in Canberra. First Table enables you to
book one of the first tables available at a range of restaurants that are listed
on the platform. You pay $10 for the booking and receive 50% off the food bill
for 2-4 people! It sounds too good to be true doesn’t it? Well it’s not, it’s early
bird dining with all the perks.
Our First Table experience was at Bicicletta for a date night with Mr Eat
Canberra before we jetted off overseas! Our booking was at 5pm on a
Saturday, which worked really well for us. We wanted to have an early dinner
so we still had the rest of the night to finish packing.
Bicicletta is hidden in Peppers Gallery Hotel in the NewActon precinct. We
were greeted by our friendly waiter and seated quickly. We were told about
some of their special dishes and recommended wines before we were left to
peruse the menu.
We shared the Fritto De Calamari and the Capesante to start. The calamari
was tender and lightly battered and the Capesante (scallops) were cooked perfectly. The pea puree and crispy prosciutto were a delicious addition to the scallops and we gobbled them up very quickly.
I was tempted by the seafood Spaghetti Ai Frutti Di Mare (a recommendation
from the waiter) but we had seafood to start so I went with the Ravioli Di
Maiale Arrosoto, another recommendation. The housemade ravioli was
stuffed with roast pork, apple, potato and thyme in a creamy apple, rhubarb &
white wine sauce finished with rocket, toasted walnuts and aged balsamic. It
was rich but delicious. Mr Eat Canberra was having trouble deciding between
the ragu and the pollo fiorentino con linguine. He went with the latter,
housemade spelt linguine with beer poached chicken breast, wild mushrooms,
sun-kissed tomatoes and spinach in a creamy pesto sauce finished with
pecorino scales.
After our entrees and mains we were feeling really full but there’s always room
for dessert… So we shared the cannoli that was filled with ricotta and nutella.
The homemade cannoli shells were light and crispy and the filling wasn’t too
sweet. It was a great way to finish a nice meal! The food was good but it was
even better because it was half price. Mr Eat Canberra also had a few beers, I
had a sparkling wine and we shared a large bottle of sparkling water. With
50% off from booking with First Table, the bill was about $80.
So how can you get 50% off your next dining experience? All you need to do
is sign up, select an available time at one of the listed restaurants, pay your
booking fee and enjoy the dining experience for 50% off! I also have a special offer that will give you $5 off your first booking. Go to https://www.firsttable.com.au/invite/eatcanberra or just use the promo code ‘eatcanberra’ when you make your first booking!
