Amazing things can happen when like-minded friends with amazing ideas come together. Situated in Yass, Trader & Co. is a result of just that. It’s a collective of businesses that can all be found in a trendy warehouse-style space. Two of the businesses you’ll find at Trader & Co. are Six8 Coffee Roaster, an amazing coffee bar and roastery, and The Kitchen that serves up fresh, healthy and nourishing fresh juices and wholefoods.
Trader & Co. is an unexpected hidden gem in Yass that buzzes with good energy. When I walked in I thought I was in the trendy city of Melbourne or one of the many popular hubs in Braddon. I was also hit by the smell of freshly ground coffee from Six8 Coffee Roasters that put an instant smile on my face! If you’re a coffee lover like me then you’ll understand how satisfying the smell of strong, fresh coffee is.
Six8 Coffee Roasters source and produce specialty, ethical coffee. Owners Daniel & Toni Neuhaus are passionate about making a difference to the lives of many people. They support charities and organisations and have spent time working with a ministry, amongst some of the most underprivileged and at risk children and families, in the slums of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. They ensure that the farmers they source the beans from are paid a decent price for their coffee, and that slave labour is not a part of the process. So every coffee you buy at Six8 Coffee Roasters makes a difference. Their coffee is roasted on site and can be found in Canberra cafes including the Doughnut Department in Canberra City. Retail and wholesale beans are also available to purchase online or in store.
Everyone at Trader & Co. was so welcoming and the environment is warm and friendly. It’s feels like you’re part of a community and that’s exactly what Trader & Co. is all about. All of the businesses value sustainability, humanity, creativity and equality. Their values really shine through from the organic food and ethical coffee that’s served, to the sustainable products for sale, and the self-serve wholefoods pantry that aims to encourage people to recycle and reduce wastage.
The Kitchen’s menu is full of nourishing, healthy food. Still feeling full from breakfast at Kaffeine 2582, I ordered the rice paper rolls and a fresh beetroot juice and Mr Eat Canberra had the banana bread. We also had a few coffees and it was a perfect place to take some time out, soak up the atmosphere and enjoy some healthy, delicious food, and exceptional coffee. They have a range of smoothies, fresh juices, salads, cakes and other healthy eats on the menu.
At the back of Trader & Co. you’ll also find a retail space, an artisans workshop and a shared workspace that can be used by other creatives.
I can’t wait to go back to Trader & Co. to soak up some more of that good energy, enjoy a coffee and eat more of the delicious food.
