Eat Canberra Food Drive for OzHarvest

Eat Canberra

We all love our food and most of us are able to enjoy some amazing dishes and experiences. But there are many people who are aren’t as fortunate.

Every year I try and donate a little time or money to a not-for-profit organisation or a cause that means a lot to me.

I’ve volunteered for PANDSI, Amnesty International Canberra and raised over $1000 when I hosted The Biggest Morning Tea in honour of my beautiful friend’s mum who passed away from breast cancer.

This year it’s all about FOOD! We’re running an Eat Canberra Food Drive in support of OzHarvest and I want YOU to be involved! Let’s all come together and donate a little to make a BIG difference.

Christmas is fast approaching (as much as I don’t like to think about it) and it’s a good time to give to others and our community. We’re big believers in kindness, helping others and supporting local businesses and charities. That’s why we’re running an Eat Canberra food drive in support of OzHarvest Canberra! Let’s give back to and help some Canberrans in need this Christmas. So when you’re enjoying your Christmas lunch this year you will know that you’ve helped others enjoy some yummy food too.

OzHarvest visit and deliver food to around 60 local charities and refuges in the region and this year YOU can help make a difference.

All types of canned and packaged goods are welcome, but no perishable foods please. There are soooo many things you can contribute! Here are just a few ideas:

  • Pasta, rice, whole grain cereal
  • Canned vegetables (ring pull)
  • Canned fruit (ring pull)
  • Canned protein foods like tuna, salmon,
chicken, beef stews – (ring pull)
  • Long life milk product
  • Biscuits (sweet and savoury)
  • Long life juice/poppers
  • Dried fruits
  • Tea/coffee
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Pancake mix
  • Spreads

But let’s not stop there! Other items you might want to donate:

  • Baskets or gift boxes for the hampers
  • Cellophane wrap
  • Other useful items (toiletries, women’s sanitary items)

Please drop items off in boxes or shopping bags. Get creative! Do you have recipes so people could make dishes out of the food you’re giving?

I have a great recipe for Tuna Puttanesca that I’m going to print and will include in some of the hampers with all the ingredients so the recipient can make a delicious meal.
