Cheers to World Champagne Day

Get ready to clink your glasses Canberrans! The House of Bubbles invites you to Celebrate World Champagne Day, an event dedicated to that delightfully bubbly drink called Champagne! The event will take place in the grand Albert Hall on Friday 27th October where you will be surrounded by all things bubbly. You will be able to choose from a range of Australian sparkling, French sparkling and Champagne, including some unexpected flavours including Rosé, Prosecco and Cava.

Pamela Fizz, Founder of The House of Bubbles said that Champagne has always been her favourite drink to enjoy with friends. Pam decided to create an event dedicated to Champagne after waiting several years for a Champagne event to pop up in Canberra.

“Ever since the ‘long bubbly bar’ was set up by the lake as part of Canberra’s Centenary Celebrations in 2013, I kept thinking, isn’t it great that Canberra is now holding activities around our beautiful lake, especially with a champagne theme,” she said.

She wondered when the next one would be, and judging on how popular it was she thought it would be a regular activity.

“My friends and I waited and waited and waited. We weren’t able to find informal places around the lake to catch up on a Friday afternoon, apart from coffee vans or restaurants.

“I’ve always had an interest in our beautiful city and wondered why our vast lake areas were so under-utilised for such activities. I also work in a role supporting women and I feel there’s a need for locations where women can meet to catch up after work – not necessarily in a traditional bar environment – providing networking opportunities in an informal, open setting.”

Pamela’s passion for Champagne and the lack of Champagne options she was seeing on drinks lists had her ‘bubbles buddies’ regularly asking when she was going organise her own Champagne event. Eventually and organising committee was formed and Celebrate World Champagne Day was created.

“The event has gained momentum since day one, and based on the interest to date, this could turn out to be the inaugural annual event to celebrate that delightful bubbly drink we call Champagne,” she said.

Celebrate World Champagne Day will have a French theme (of course) and will be a fun way to wind down after a busy week at work. The Canberra Pentanque Club will show guests how to play the French ball game. Students from Alliance Française will read French poetry and the suppliers will be on hand to explain the different varieties to you – you might be surprised and discover your new favourite Champagne or sparkling!

There will be also be two lucky door prizes up for grabs including a beautiful Wine & Shine pearl bracelet from Proud Pearls, and a $100 gift voucher from Eat Canberra! There’s also a special announcement that will make Champagne lovers extremely happy…..
