A favourite amongst locals since 2013, this bustling suburban café sits on a corner in the heart of the south.
Common Grounds is located at Gowrie shops and proudly pours Campos coffee. It’s a reliable source for a beautifully presented brekkie or lunch, with staples that will suit everyone.
Crowd favourite brekkie picks are their crispy French toast topped with creamy mascarpone, maple syrup and berry compote, and the ‘Smavo’ – tons of creamy avocado atop toasted sourdough with poached eggs, pesto, balsamic glaze and roasted tomatoes.
The all-day menu is also packed full of inventive items like Tunisian-style oatmeal with tomato, green onion and harissa oil, the ‘Columbian Hash’ with chilli pork sausage, crispy potatoes, guac and chips. If you really want to treat yourself, get around the ‘Taro Stack’ – fluffy hotcakes with taro mascarpone, fruit jelly, ice cream and maple syrup.
Keep an eye out for the specials board that boasts delicious daily offerings. In the past, they have featured one-off delights like almond-croissant French toast, hearty crispy pork chops and a brightly coloured fresh salmon poke bowl. Yum!
Don’t want a sit down meal? They adapt most menu items to take away, and there are always freshly baked treats on display. They’re known for their raspberry and white choc muffins and sugar-coated morning buns. Gowrie locals will know what I’m talking about…
Recently renovated inside, it boasts a cosy modern feel as the morning sun streams through the front windows. Can’t get a spot indoors? Head out the back to the large outdoor undercover area, it’s warm and toasty in winter thanks to the gas heaters.
Common Grounds Gowrie is also a great spot to take kids, with highchairs, a change table, and a playground opposite the cafe.
