Raiders great Terry Campese gives Tuggeranong two new dining options: Burrito Bar and Smokin’ Burgers & Ribs

Yes, you heard right. Tuggeranong is getting not one, but two, epic new restaurants at South.Point shopping centre.

Former rugby league player and Canberra Raiders captain Terry Campese opens the Burrito Bar and Smokin’ Burgers & Ribs.

“I’ve dabbled in the hospitality industry throughout my football career, teaming up with Crust Pizza in the past, but I wanted to bring something new and exciting to Tuggeranong where friends and family can come together to enjoy some good food” said co-owner Terry Campese.

Burrito Bar won best Mexican in QLD and Victoria in 2021 and provides a modern take on street food, packed full of bold flavours and colours. Enjoy the classics like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, fajitas, wings, nachos, churros and more. Or if you’re craving some authentic southern fried chicken just flip the menu over and check out what Smokin’ Burgers & Ribs offer.

Terry explained that other Burrito Bar and Smokin’ Burgers & Ribs franchises across Australia are usually separated by a wall to create two restaurants. “I wanted to tear the wall down and merge the two so you can order both cuisines at the same bar,” he said. “That way it creates a larger cohesive space for people to enjoy two amazing menus at once.”

“We’ll have weekly specials like Taco Mondays and Wing Wednesdays, and we’re hoping to have live music on Fridays and Sundays.”

Terry’s community work is reflected through The Terry Campese Foundation, which aims to help disadvantaged youth. His new restaurant venture has already provided jobs for seven young people, offering a career stepping stone and personal development.

“When I met with the kids and gave them their new staff uniforms, they couldn’t wipe the smiles off their faces. They will get the chance to learn the ropes behind the bar, in the kitchen and on the floor. You never know, this opportunity could lead to owning their own restaurant one day.”

When asked what his go-to dishes were he said, “I’m a fajita man, but I also highly recommend the nachos. I tried the ribs the other day too, and they have fast became a favourite of mine.”

The fully licensed venue will also offer signature margaritas, cocktails, and a range of local and imported beers, wines, and spirits. Terry said he wanted to keep products as local as possible, “this month we have a Green Machine cocktail made with Raiders signature gin from local distillery Underground Spirits.”

You’ll find Burrito Bar and Smokin’ Burgers & Ribs outside South.Point shopping centre on the corner of Anketell and Reed Street, Greenway. Open everyday from 11.00am – 9.00pm, and until 10.00pm on Friday and Saturdays.
