Enigma Fine Chocolates opens a shop in Canberra

Eat Canberra

We teased you last year with the knowledge that Enigma Fine Chocolates would be opening a shop in Canberra. We can now reveal that tomorrow (27th March) is the day!

Local handmade chocolate business, Enigma Fine Chocolates, will open its doors in their new shop, located at Unit 65/30 Lonsdale St, just next door to the amazing Frugii Dessert Laboratory. Making the area a little dessert hub for incredible and unique handmade sweet treats.

I love what I do and one of the reasons is because I get to meet many amazing people who are doing amazing things. I then get to spread the word about their businesses by sharing their story with you.

I’ve been in contact with Stuart Strutt-Shotton (Stu) for a while now. We ran a giveaway on Eat Canberra and I’ve ordered his chocolates to give to guests on Eat Canberra Food Tours. I was also lucky enough to be gifted one of the giant baubles (a testament to his amazing chocolate creations) he created for an event before Christmas.

You might have seen Enigma Fine Chocolates at the popular Handmade Markets where they usually sell out of stock. Or you might have seen them in some of the many local shops that support local businesses including Urban Providore.

Stu is a trained chef and has been making his award-winning handmade chocolates from his home in Lyneham since 2015, with the help of his lovely partner and daughters. He specialises in unique handmade truffles (anyone for an espresso martini truffle?), gorgeous bars and all things cocoa. You should see his chocolate creations for special occasions like Easter and Christmas!

He told me his plans to open a store a while ago and I’ve been checking in with him regularly since then. I went for a walk through the shop last month and he showed me around.

So what can you expect? If you’re there at the right time you’ll be able to see the chocolates being made through a glass panel, there will be gorgeous chocolate displays and you’ll be able to learn everything about the types of chocolate they use and how they make their beautiful creations. You can sample some of their chocolates and of course, purchase them for gifts or for yourself. I recommend doing both! Their long-term goal is to be able to run special events and workshops in the shop.

“People can expect the same high quality products we’ve been producing for over 4 years with new items being added over time.

“We’ll also be offering our dairy-free hot chocolate as a takeaway option daily, with a selection of spices to add in.

“In the coming weeks we will start to showcase some bean-to-bar chocolates from different makers from around the world that you won’t be able to source locally.

“Opening up the shop means we can showcase our hard work and passion of fine chocolates to more people and to share our knowledge and love of all things cocoa,” said Stu.

Stu has been working tirelessly to make enough stock for the shop while fulfilling general orders and having a huge weekend at the most recent Handmade Markets. The time has come and the doors will open tomorrow! Stu and the team will be handing out samples and special treats throughout the day.

If you’re looking for Easter gifts then you know where to go this year! Oh and if you come on an Eat Canberra Food Tour you might get to visit Enigma Fine Chocolates and sample some of their amazing chocolates for yourself.
