Thanksgiving in Australia – yes or no?

Eat Canberra

This time last year Mr Eat Canberra was about to jump on a plane to meet me in New York! After spending a week in New Orleans for work we had arranged to meet in the big apple and spend a week exploring and eating our way around the magnificent concrete jungle.

I was there two years ago and absolutely fell in love with the city so I wanted Mr Eat Canberra to experience it too! He did and he loves it just as much as I do. We were there at such a great time and it snowed on Thanksgiving Day! We ventured to Brooklyn for some of the best BBQ I’ve ever eaten, we explored and ate our way through the Chelsea Markets, food hopped in the West and East Village, ate hot dogs and burgers at the shake shack, saw a basketball and hockey match at Madison Square Garden, ate at some amazing restaurants (including Buddakan and Marea) and so much more! We went to dinner at 11pm one night and didn’t leave until 1:30am and we weren’t even the last ones to leave! We did all this in a week and we also got to spend Thanksgiving in New York! We watched the Macy’s Parade and ate a traditional Thanksgiving lunch near Time Square. Words can’t truly describe the experience but we certainly made the most of every minute.

So that bring me to the question I want to ask you, do you celebrate or have you celebrated Thanksgiving? I know it’s not an Australian tradition but after our Thanksgiving in New York last year I was so excited and absolutely loved it. I said to Mr Eat Canberra “We’re going to have a big Thanksgiving dinner at home next year and everyone can wear those dorky jumpers and it’s going to be so much fun!” But now it’s come to the crunch and I don’t know if people will want to celebrate it. Another thing is that I won’t be able to able to have a dinner party on the actual Thanksgiving holiday and would have to wait until the Saturday night. Instead I would have to have a belated Thanksgiving dinner that I could turn into a late Thanksgiving/early Christmas celebration…

There are so many recipes out there so I’m putting a together a round up post of Thanksgiving recipes for you that will be up in the next few days.

The only place I know that’s hosting Thanksgiving lunch in Canberra is Smoque Woden.

Please help me with my dilemma!?
