I’ve always said that the only way to survive a Canberra winter is to get out, even if it’s just for an extra long weekend! I’m originally from QLD so the sunshine and sea will always be some of my favourite things. We’re in the midst of the coldest time of the year in Canberra and it’s not too late to plan your winter escape. Even if you don’t live in Canberra, if a warm, island destination (otherwise known as paradise) is where you want to be then Hamilton Island is the perfect escape for you. We went there earlier in the year and had the best time exploring the island! Continue reading Escape to Hamilton Island
One of the many things I love about Eat Canberra is that I get to meet passionate, interesting people who love food as much as I do! Then I get to share the story with you. So when chef Michael Carey recently contacted me to tell me he had entered the S. Pellegrino Young Chef 2018 competition, you can only imagine how excited I was.

There are many things that I love about Canberra, including its proximity to major cities, beaches, the bushland, picturesque mountains and gorgeous landscapes. Within 20 mins your can find yourself in New South Wales and within several hours you can even find yourself in Victoria.
Eat Canberra was invited to the Tastes of Rutherglen Food & Wine Festival in March so we hit the road and sampled some of the delicious food and wine on offer at some of the many amazing wineries in the region. It’s Aussie Wine Month this month so we thought that now would be the perfect time to share our experience with you. Continue reading Explore Rutherglen: Tastes of Rutherglen Food & Wine Festival

Local Press Cafe is one of my favourite cafes in Canberra. They serve healthy, fresh and flavoursome whole foods and that’s our kind of food. They’re also located at the beautiful Kingston Foreshore so you can enjoy a delicious lunch or breakfast, soak up the surroundings and go for a walk around Lake Burley Griffin before or after you have a bite to eat or something to drink. MasterChef Australia contestant, Trent Harvey, also worked at Local Press Cafe when he finished filming the show and is still involved with the Local Press Cafe team. If you haven’t heard, Eat Canberra is hosting our very first event at The Truffle Farm where guests will be treated to a two-course lunch cooked by Trent, desserts by Naked Foods Braddon and lots more. Australia Day is a day that brings people together to celebrate being Australian and to commemorate the founding of Australia in 1788.
It’s also a day for getting together with friends and playing cricket, swimming in pools, having a game of slip n slide, listening to Triple J’s Hottest 100 and turning on the BBQ. But however you choose to celebrate the day there is always, always food involved. So why not add an Aussie twist to your food? Continue reading Aussie Day Recipes
